(CNN) — Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is resigning, according to three people familiar with the matter.

Gabbard has informed associates that she is leaving because her husband is battling cancer, the people said.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did Gabbard’s office.

Gabbard has informed President Donald Trump of her decision, one of the sources said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
