Mustangs Alumni take the field at Phil Welch as team also honors Noah Cameron

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — Saturday evening was a night of memories and St. Joseph pride as the Mustangs hosted their Alumni Game.

The night also honored Central High School Alumni and now-town icon Noah Cameron, who pitches for the Kansas City Royals.  Fans were lined up from the gates of Phil Welch to the road nearby before the park opened for a chance to secure a Mustangs-themed Noah Cameron bobblehead, according to Mustangs Owner and GM Ky Turner.

As a part of the Cameron-themed festivities, a pregame video was shown featuring highlights of Cameron's from Central to Kauffman Stadium.

However, his mother, Diane Cameron, threw out the first pitch before the two Mustangs teams took the field, joined by her husband and Noah’s dad, Tracy.

"This is an awesome night for the Mustangs to honor Noah with this bobblehead,” Tracy Cameron shared. “Unfortunately, he's on the road with the team in Minnesota, but yeah, it's really neat."

Despite not being able to make it to the Mustangs game, Noah Cameron sent in another video thanking the Mustangs and St. Joseph for their support.

Over 14 Mustangs Alumni players made their way back to Phil Welch to take on the current-day team. One usually suited in purple, however, taking the dugout with his team Saturday evening was former player and current Mustangs Head Coach Johnny Coy.

Despite some not taking the field as much, Coy looks forward to their passion when they return to face his current squad.

"We get so many guys that haven't really I mean, you talk on text every once in a while,” Coy said of old teammates and former players in the adjacent dugout. “But when they get back, you know, all together in the same dugout, just like old times, they get to catch up with each other and get to play in front of huge crowds like this."

The Mustangs beat the Alumni on Saturday night by a score of 10-3.
