Camp Courage celebrates another summer

STEWARTSVILLE, Mo (KQTV) -- A summer camp event for special needs adults culminated its 2026 weekend on Sunday.

Camp Courage gives its campers a four-day, three-night retreat at Camp Farwesta that allows them to experience outdoor activities, as well as make friendships with the other campers.

The 2026 camp theme was tied to the Shrek film franchise.

"We have had so many great leaders throughout the years," Camp counselor Kevin Kelley said. "All the campers are just fantastic, and so are the campers."

By the end of the camp, the experience has a positive impact on the campers and staff.

"I used to think, 'Oh, it's so cute that the campers would start to get packed in October or January,'" Camp counselor Mike Hudak said. "Then I realized after last year, I thought about it hundreds of times since last year. Almost daily, I think about coming here."

Camp Courage will celebrate 50 years of service next summer.
