HIGHLAND, Kan. (KQTV) -- The Patterson Family Foundation awarded a generous grant to Highland Community College on July 16 to help expand educational and workforce opportunities for adults in rural Northeast Kansas.

Highland Community College's Adult Education received $139,000 from the foundation, helping connect the grant to its broader impact.

This will help the college expand access to adult education services for individuals facing challenges such as transportation, childcare, and other barriers that may prevent a parent from earning their degree. With Highland's help through the adult program, participants will have opportunities to earn a GED®, improve academic and workforce skills, obtain worthwhile credentials for desired job markets, and prepare for employment or post-secondary education.

"We are grateful to the Patterson Family Foundation for investing in the future of rural Kansans," said Mary Johanning, Director of Adult Education at Highland Community College. "This grant allows us to expand access to education and career pathways for adults who are ready to improve their lives while strengthening the workforce in the communities we serve."
