KQ2 Pigskin Preview: North Platte looks to dominate on new Turf Field

DEARBORN, Mo (KQTV) -- North Platte High School enters another season in the KCI Conference, with an upgraded field for the Friday Night Lights.

After last season's 6-5 record, four seniors will return to the Panther football team on a largely underclassmen team.

One of the biggest changes for the team will be playing every home game on their brand-new turf field.

"We are super blessed that our community was willing to pass this for our community, our school, and our football program," Head Coach Jared Quigley said. "To see it go from grass to dirt to rock, it's been very cool to see the whole process."

Coach Quigley is not the only panther who shares the same excitement for this new addition.

"I think it's gonna be a good deal," Junior Running-Back Johnny McCracken said. "It's been a big thing for the community."

"When I first moved here, they never really thought that we were gonna get turf, at least during my time," Junior Quarterback Tate Gill said. "Then last year, they started talking about it. And then it actually started happening and I just couldn't believe it."

After last year's quarterback, Dylan Armstrong, graduated, two other Quarterbacks are stepping up to take his position.

Junior Tate Gill and Sophomore Camden Colburn have been competing all summer to earn the QB1 spot.

"Both have been doing great things in terms of running our offense and being leaders," Quigley said.

North Platte will begin their season by facing off against Gallatin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Savannah High School.
