Washburn University’s Football game ends in a tie due to extreme heat

TOPEKA, Kan. (KQTV) -- The Washburn Ichabod Football team started its earliest game in school history against the Colorado School of Mines at 9:05 am to beat the heat, which ended up resulting in a tie on the field Saturday.

The game was 16-16 at the end of the fourth quarter as the two teams headed into overtime; however, officials paused the game around 12:40 pm and eventually called it.

This is the first time that Washburn's football program has tied an opponent in official play since October 22, 1977, when they played the Griffons at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. The score was a 7-7 tie.

The Ichabods will open MIAA play next weekend at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
