St. Joseph Goats win Arena League Championship, first in team history

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The St. Joseph Goats indoor football team won the Arena League Championship on Saturday night for the first time in team history.

The Goats defeated the Arkansas Diamonds 52-30 to bring home the teams first title in its 3-year history and second year playing in st. Joseph.

The Goats fought through multiple injuries to key players during the season and still came out on top. It meant the world to the goats to bring a championship to the city of st. Joseph.

"It means a lot because once you realize how much it means to the city, it makes you wanna win it even more. Somebody never had nothing and you start giving them something and they appreciate it, it makes you wanna keep doing," said receiver Boo Smith, who had 2 touchdown receptions in the game. "We just keep trying to bring them wins and just bring so much culture and fun to the city. We're gonna keep doing it. It means so much to us."

"It means everything to me. This town welcomed us with open arms and to bring another championship here, it feels amazing," said Arena League Coach of the Year, Dorsey Golston III. "Every time I go somewhere and they see my Goats gear, they're just so happy. They're like ohhhh and they're screaming! I love it. Thank y'all fans."

The Goats finish the season with a 7-2 record and the team's first ever title.
