Rock Port High School volleyball wins 5-set duel with Mound City on the road

MOUND CITY, Mo. (KQTV) - In a battle of two of the best high school volleyball teams in the 275 Conference, the regular season clash of Rock Port and Mound City lived up to the hype. The Lady Blue Jays would emerge victorious 3-2 in a 5 set thriller (25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 17-25, 16-14).

These two teams met in the district title game last season, which also went 5 sets, Rock Port won that game as well.

"I thought it was really fun. I love playing high competition games and Mound City is pretty much a rival in the conference whenever it comes to games like this," said Rock Port junior Braylyn Wood. "So I just know beating them feels pretty good coming into this season."

"One of my personal goals was to finally get Mound City in a conference match. It's been a couple of years since we've done that, so coming in here, coming hot like we did, and then being the finishers, that's what really matters, being the finishers there," said Rock Port coach Stephanie Parsons.

Rock Port improves to 5-2 on the season and next hosts Union Star on Tuesday, September 8th at 6 pm. Mound City falls to 1-1, the Lady Panthers next play at South Holt on the 8th at 6 pm.
