Savannah High School softball racks up 20 hits, 13 runs in road victory at Benton

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The Savannah High School softball team continues its strong season as the Savages collected 20 hits and 13 runs in a 13-5 road victory against Benton on Tuesday.

Senior Macee Blythe led Savannah at the plate as she was 3-for-5 with 5 RBI, sophomore Lilly Musser finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, junior Landyn Gabler was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, junior Shay Sherwood was 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and senior Siarrah George was 1-for-5 with 1 RBI.

For Benton, junior Shaina Noland finished 1-for-4 and 3 RBI on a 3-run home run she hit in the 7th inning.

Junior Emma McMullan pitched all 7 innings for Savannah, giving up 6 hits and 5 runs but finishing with 12 strikeouts.

"It was a great game, really. They came back in the last few innings just ready to battle it out, but it was great because we need that for tomorrow. We play at Platte County," said Blythe. "They're going to be a difficult team to battle with as well. We had multiple great hits this game, very good defense. I think we're prepared for tomorrow."

"We could talk to anybody through our lineup of 1 through 9 and how everyone's doing something to get on base, doing a job, moving a runner, stealing, going 1st, 3rd, putting a bunt down," said Savannah head coach Rebekah Glenn. "You name it, we are able to execute it, and I think that's the most fun part right now is that we can do anything."

As Blythe mentioned, the now 4-0 Savannah Savages next play at Platte County on Wednesday, September 9th at 4:30 pm.

Benton drops to 3-2 and will play at Lincoln College Prep in Kansas City on the 9th at 5 pm.
