Mid-Buch volleyball punches their ticket to the Class 2 State Semifinals

FAUCETT, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Mid-Buchanan Dragons volleyball team wins in dramatic fashion against the Adrian Blackhawks, 3-2(25-15, 25-20, 20-25, 16-25, 15-9).

Mid-Buchanan jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Adrian didn't back down. They battled back and forced a fifth set. The Dragons jumped out to the early lead in the final set and came away with the victory.

Head Coach Ron Underwood was proud of his team after the game and spoke on the resiliency to go win the fifth set.

"They do a great job of keeping each other grounded," Underwood said. "They don't let anyone get too high or too low. It was a lot of fun. It's been a long time coming. 38 years of this and this is the first one(State Semifinals)."

Coach Underwood knows he has a special team and loves being their coach.

"This is the first time that I can remember where I absolutely had all the pieces," Underwood said. "They are a unit and it takes all of them. They play for each other."

Camryn Atha is a senior and a leader for this Mid-Buchanan team. She says this team has belief in everyone on the court.

"We are so close and we trust each other so much," Atha said. "We just want to do it for each other. We just have this bond and know how to play with each other."

Mid-Buch improves to 38-1 on the season and will face the New Covenant Academy Lady Warriors for a shot to go to the Class 2 State Championship. The Semifinal matchup will take Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the St. Joseph Civic Arena at 6 p.m.
