(GRANT CITY, MO) - The 1 seed Rock Port High School boys basketball team knocked out 3 seed Worth County, 58-51 in the Class 1 District 16 Championship. Back-to-back District Championships for the Blue Jays.

Rock Port held a 25-22 lead at the halftime break, but then outscored Worth County 17-3 in the third quarter. The Tigers tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough.

Senior Jack Meyerkorth led Rock Port with 25 points, followed by sophomore Reid Ellis with 13 and junior Logan Ellis with 11 points. For Worth County, the Tigers were led by junior Caleb New with 23 points, followed by freshman Brock Healy with 17 points.

This is great. We're excited, we've been looking forward to this all year and our season ended bad last year, so we're trying to get back to that point," said Meyerkorth.

"I think it was defense, really, to be honest with you. When you're having success on the defensive end, it's easier to be free on offense," said Rock Port head coach Aaron Carpenter. "When you know you can get a stop, you've got a little more freedom on offense, and I think that's what kind of fed into it."

Rock Port improves to 22-6 on the season, Worth County finishes the year 16-11.

Rock Port will now face Faith Christian Academy in the Class 1 State Sectionals on Tuesday, March 3rd at 6 pm in Lathrop.
