Carson Bray holds Rock Port baseball to just 1 hit as Maysville earns shut out win in WOW Wood Bat Tournament

(SAVANNAH, MO) - Maysville High School baseball, the #6 team in class 2, shut out Rock Port, the #5 team in Class 1 by the score of 3-0 in the first round of the WOW Wood Bat Tournament for the Red Division.

It was scoreless until the top of the 4th, when Maysville scored two runs on 2 errors after a bunt from Wolverines junior Bo Zeikle. Freshman Graham Kennedy then drove in the third run on a sac fly.

Rock Port loaded the bases in the top of the 7th with no outs, but senior pitcher Carson Bray and Maysville didn't allow any runs to score, ending the game in a shutout.

Bray finished with 7 strikeouts in 7 innings pitched and just allowed 1 hit all game and no runs. For Rock Port, junior Case Millsap pitched all 7 innings as well, finishing with 8 strikeouts with 7 hits and 3 runs given up.

"I've looked at (Rock Port's stats on) Gamechanger. They hit the ball well. They put up a lot of runs this year and I'm just trying let our defense make plays," said Bray. "We have a great defense and I was just trying to put the ball over the plate, let them make plays, and our defense made a bunch of plays and it was great."

"They've done amazing so far this year, fighting adversity. Our schedule is kind of a gauntlet," said Maysville head coach Dakota Dunlap. "We have a lot of Class 3 and 4 opponents early in the season, which is a good test. So now those tests are paying off."

Maysville now improves to 10-4 on the season and will now face Plattsmouth in the Red Division Semifinals of the WOW Wood Bat Tournament in Faucett on Saturday, April 10th at 11:30 am.

Rock Port drops to 8-2 and now faces Christ Prep Academy in the Red Division Consolation Bracket on the 11th on St. Joseph Christian's field at 11:30 am.
