West Platte High School baseball comes back to take down Maysville in ranked matchup

(WESTON, MO) - In a showdown between the ninth best team in Class 3 in West Platte and the sixth best team in Class 2 in Maysville, the Blue Jays came back to defeat the Wolverines, 9-4.

Maysville got out to a 4-1 lead after the third inning, but West Platte buckled down and scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the bottom of the fifth to come back and claim victory.

Six West Platte batters had at least one RBI, led by senior Alex Allison who was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and sophomore Dalton Burns who finished 1-for-2 with 3 RBI. Junior Blaze Masoner was 1-for-2 with 1 RBI on a solo home run.

"I'm so proud of my guys. I mean, it's high school baseball. We're going to kick the ball around a little bit. We're not used to that. We're normally pretty sound on defense, but these guys, we've been working on situations and games, high pressure moments, and these guys responded," said head coach Brian Faulkner. "These guys have a lot of dog in them and a lot of fight, and I'm just so happy and proud to lead these guys."

West Platte improves to 17-4 on the season and has one final game until the District Tournament, the Blue Jays host Platte Valley for Senior Day on Tuesday, May 12th at 4:30 pm. Maysville drops to 20-6 on the year, the Wolverines next host Cameron on Friday, May 8th at 5 pm.
