Lafayette High School baseball cruises to win over Maryville in the District Quarterfinals

(ST. JOSEPH, MO) - The 4 seed Lafayette High School baseball team faced 5 seed Maryville on Saturday in the Class 4 District 16 Quarterfinals on MoWest's baseball field.

Lafayette sophomore pitcher Jaxson Jonas had a strong performance on the mound, 9 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched while giving up only 2 hits and no runs. But Lafayette didn't get the bats going until the bottom of the 4th where the team brought across 5 runs and added one more in the bottom of the 6th.

Freshman Bentley Manassero finished 3-for-3 at the plate with 1 RBI for the Irish, freshman Reice Presto was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and senior Wyatt Profitt was 1-for-3 with 1 RBI.

"We've talked a lot with the guys as far as honor the program, honor each other, honor your families with this being the last year (for Lafayette)," said head coach Matt Jansen. "We just wanna win our last game, that's been the mantra of us. It's been a privilege to be their head coach. It's been a privilege to represent the Northside for baseball. I think we've done a tremendous job of doing that, not only on the field but off the field."

Lafayette will now face rival and 1 seed Benton in the Class 4 District 16 Semifinals on Tuesday, May 19th at 5 pm.
