Parker Gatewood honored to be final Lafayette High School golfer to play at state tournament

(ST. JOSEPH, MO) - Lafayette High School junior Parker Gatewood will represent the Fighting Irish one final time as he heads to play in the Class 3 Boys Golf State Tournament for the first time in his career.

The Class 3 Golf Tournament will be in Sedalia at the Sedalia Country Club beginning on Monday, May 18th. It's a course Gatewood has never played at before but he's ready for the challenge along with just focusing on playing golf, not about how big the moment is.

He's also honored to be the last golfer to represent the school in the state tournament.

"I love Lafayette. I hate that it's shutting down, but oh my goodness, the feeling of walking off my last hole at districts, knowing that I just shot low enough to make the cut, not knowing if I made it. That feeling was really great and then knowing that like, oh my gosh, Lafayette's shutting down, this is history," said Gatewood. "I'm the last guy that's making it, I'm super blessed and super grateful. It's just crazy. Super, super wild!"

Gatewood and his Class 3 participants will tee off in Sedalia on the 18th and then have the final day of play on the 19th.
