Rock Port’s Ella Meyerkorth looking to cap off accoladed track and field career at State Championships this weekend

(ROCK PORT, MO) - The high school state track championships for Classes 1-3 are this weekend in Jefferson City. Lots of local student athletes will be looking to win state titles.

One of the more highly decorated track and field athletes in the area is Rock Port senior Ella Meyerkorth, and she's heading into her final state meet on a high note. Meyerkorth, who's proved she's a versatile athlete in her track and field career, placed first in the 100 meter hurdles, the 300 meter hurdles and the long jump in the Class 1 Sectional 4 meet in Mound City. She placed second in the javelin in that meet as well.

Meyerkorth is a key factor to a very strong Rock Port girls track and field team that's looking for the school's third straight team title at the state meet.

"I'm very grateful where god has gotten me to this point. It's not easy work, but I just got to keep working every practice and trying to get better at each event, tweaking the little things," said Meyerkorth. "I just want to have fun, take it easy. It's not my last track meet, but it's the last track meet wearing this uniform, so I'm just going to try to have fun."

Meyerkorth will have two final days wearing Rock Port blue on the team, the state meet begins this Friday, May 22nd and ends on Saturday, May 23rd in Jefferson City. After high school, Meyerkorth will participate in the heptathlon in college at the University of Northern Iowa at the division 1 level.
