The Kansas City Chiefs hang on to pick up a road victory over the rival Raiders to improve to 4-0 on the year

NFL

LAS VEGAS, Nv. (KQTV) - It wasn't easy for the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, but at the end of the day, the team was able to pull out a 30-27 road victory over the Las Vegas Raiders to improve to 4-0 on the season.

In a game that featured four lead changes, the biggest play came in the fourth quarter when after a Chiefs touchdown, second year linebacker Jeff Bassa punched the ball loose on the ensuing Raiders' kickoff return. Kansas City recovered the ball and a play later Kenneth Walker III ran in a 22 yard touchdown to put the Chiefs up 20-19.

The Raiders added a late touchdown and two-point conversion to pull within 3 and had the ball one final time to try and get in field goal range. But Kirk Cousins was intercepted by Xavier Nwankpa on the Chiefs 35 yard line in the final seconds to seal the win.

Walker carried the ball 22 times for a career high 177 yards and rushed for 2 touchdowns. Patrick Mahomes finished 15-of-30 for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns. Those 2 scores were caught by Tyquan Thornton who had 5 catches for 111 yards. Thornton was carted off the field in the fourth quarter after a severe ankle injury.

On defense, rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane led the Chiefs with 10 tackles and 7 solo tackles.

"When there's two good teams, I think that that helps the whole thing. That was a battle," said head coach Andy Reid"They battle their tail off and our guys battle their tail off and that's what this is all about. That's why we do what we do. The guys respect each other, but they play their tails off against each other and fight. That's what this thing is all about."

"It's not always going to be pretty. That's a good football team, a good defense. It's not always going to be lighting it up and going out there and scoring 50 points or whatever it is," said Mahomes. "If you stay with the process, it's going to come. You have to just continue to push and as EB (Eric Bieniemy) says, strain to finish and it is true."

Kansas City at 4-0 is now the final undefeated team in the AFC. KC will have a bye week this coming week before hosting the Los Angeles Chargers back at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, October 18th.
