Tracking a soggy Thursday and Friday T-storms

Good morning and happy Wednesday. As you head out the door, rain is still falling across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. The rain is becoming lighter and more scattered, with temperatures on the cooler side this morning in the low 50s to low 60s.

We’ll continue to warm up through the day, with highs climbing into the 70s. Rain chances will gradually decrease, and most areas will dry out by late morning into the early afternoon.

A few spotty, light showers may linger this afternoon and into early Thursday morning, but overall conditions remain mostly dry through the first half of Thursday.

By late Thursday morning into the afternoon, winds become the main story. Expect strong southwesterly winds with gusts between 35 and 40 mph, and even higher at times. A few isolated storms are possible Thursday afternoon as a cold front moves through, but severe weather looks limited.

Attention then turns to Friday, which has the potential to bring more impactful weather. Temperatures will warm back into the 70s, and conditions will become more unstable through the afternoon. Thunderstorms are expected to develop late in the day and continue into the evening.

Some of these storms could become strong to severe. The primary concern will be damaging winds, but large hail and a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Storms will likely form along a cold front and move from west to east through the evening hours before exiting late Friday night.

While widespread heavy rain is not expected Friday, any storms that move over areas that saw heavy rain earlier this week could lead to localized flooding concerns.

Cooler and breezy conditions return for Saturday, with quieter and warmer weather expected by Sunday into early next week.
