Tracking clouds and scattered showers Friday

Abigail McCluskey

Good morning and happy Friday. I’m meteorologist Abigail McCluskey.

We’re kicking off the holiday weekend with mild conditions across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Temperatures this morning are in the upper 50s to low 60s with increasing cloud cover and a few scattered showers beginning to develop. Most of the heavier rain remains farther north, but we’ll continue to see scattered showers through the afternoon and evening hours.

Not everyone will see rain today, but roads could be a little damp for the morning and evening commutes. A few rumbles of thunder are possible later today, though severe weather is not expected at this time.

Rain chances continue overnight into early Saturday before gradually decreasing through the day Saturday. Overall rainfall totals look fairly light, generally around a half inch to 1 inch, so widespread flooding concerns are not expected.

Temperatures today warm into the low 70s, with upper 70s returning Saturday and 80s by Sunday and Memorial Day. Sunshine also returns for the second half of the holiday weekend, making for great conditions to enjoy outdoor plans.

Rain chances return again by the middle of next week.
