Tracking strong storms, severe threat Wednesday afternoon and evening

Strong to severe storms are expected to develop across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas Wednesday afternoon and evening, as a cold front passes across the region interacting with a warm moist air mass. Damaging winds, sizable hail, and a few tornadoes are possible, as well as localized flooding due to heavy rainfall. The main risk period will be between 3 PM and 10 PM, potentially continuing later in the evening south of the highway 36 corridor.

A Tornado watch has been issued for all of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas through 9 p.m. Wednesday evening.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for parts of extreme Northeast Kansas, Northwest Missouri and North Central Missouri through 7 a.m. Thursday.

Scattered showers and storms will continue Thursday, with the highest risk for severe weather shifting east of I-35 and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 80s. Sunshine returns Friday, before t-storm chances return this weekend.
