Tracking a warm and sunny end to the work week

After several days of heat and humidity, along with rounds of severe weather, Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas can look forward to calmer and more comfortable conditions to finish out the work week. While scattered strong to severe storms continue across central, southern, and eastern Missouri Thursday evening, clear skies and northwest breezes will prevail locally as stable, less humid air filters into the region. Temperatures will fall from the low 80s into the upper 50s and low 60s late tonight, with northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph tapering off to a light breeze after midnight. Sunshine will prevail Friday with afternoon highs in the mid 80s, southerly breezes, and relatively dry air in place. A low pressure system will bring another chance of strong to severe thunderstorms on Saturday, with high winds, hail, and a tornado or two possible. More details will emerge on the timing and confidence of Saturday’s severe threat over the next 24 to 36 hours.
