Tracking a mild and sunny Monday

Good morning and happy Monday.

We're starting the new workweek with cool, calm and comfortable conditions across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Temperatures this morning are in the mid to upper 50s, making for a refreshing start to the day.

Skies are mostly clear, with just a few passing high clouds. High pressure centered over Missouri will keep conditions sunny and dry through much of the day.

By lunchtime, temperatures will climb into the upper 70s, and highs this afternoon will reach around 80 degrees. With low humidity and plenty of sunshine, it will be another beautiful day to spend time outdoors.

Clouds will begin increasing later this evening as our next weather system approaches. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop overnight and continue into early Tuesday morning. The rain should move south by late morning, allowing for a drier and more pleasant afternoon Tuesday.

Additional rain and thunderstorm chances return Wednesday, when portions of the area will once again be at risk for severe weather. Areas east of Interstate 35 are under a Level 3 out of 5 risk, while areas west of Interstate 35 remain under a Level 2 out of 5 risk.

Temperatures will be a bit of a roller coaster this week, with highs near 80 degrees today and Tuesday before warming into the low 90s by Wednesday. Cooler air returns Thursday with highs back in the low 80s, followed by mid to upper 80s heading into the weekend.

More scattered rain chances remain in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, which also marks the first weekend of summer and Father's Day.
