Tracking lingering rain and t-storm chances

Overcast skies have taken over Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas Thursday afternoon, as a wave of low pressure brings showers and a few embedded thunderstorms to the area over the next 12 to 24 hours. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated south of the Highway 36 corridor through the Kansas City metro where a Flood Watch remains in effect through 7 a.m. Friday, June 26. Locations across far Northern Missouri will see lighter rainfall totals, especially those near the Iowa border. Locally heavy rainfall is the biggest concern for southern parts of the viewing area Thursday evening and overnight, with any threat for severe storms remaining low.

Spotty rain chances and cloud coverage will stick around for the first half of Friday with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees and light northeast breezes. Clouds will give way to more sunshine and a steady warming trend this weekend, with highs reaching the mid to upper 80s and Saturday and low 90s by Sunday.
