Tracking Tuesday dangerous heat & humidity

Good morning and happy Tuesday!

As you're heading out the door this morning, it's another hot and sticky start. Temperatures are already in the upper 70s to lower 80s, with southwest winds gusting into the upper teens and 20s. It's breezy out there, so keep both hands on the wheel this morning!

We're mostly dry, although we're watching a few scattered showers developing across southeastern Nebraska. Those will track east along the Missouri-Iowa border, giving our northern counties the best chance for a few sprinkles today.

By lunchtime, temperatures will climb through the 80s, with highs reaching the upper 90s this afternoon. Heat index values will approach or exceed 100 degrees, so it will be another dangerously hot day.

A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. for areas along and south of Highway 36. If you're spending time outside, drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks and avoid prolonged exposure to the heat.

A cold front moves through late tonight into Wednesday morning, bringing a few chances for showers and thunderstorms, mainly east of our area. Most of today stays dry with only a few isolated sprinkles.

We'll stay hot through Thursday, with highs in the lower to middle 90s, before temperatures gradually cool into the 80s by the weekend. Rain chances also increase later this week, bringing some much-needed relief from the heat.
