Tracking scattered t-storms Sunday, early week heat and humidity

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are continuing to pop across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas Sunday, as a broad area of low pressure passes by the region with plenty of moist air in place. Periodic rain and thunderstorms will continue into the overnight hours. Aside from heavy downpours and frequent lightning, the severe threat is low. Afternoon 80s will give way to lows near 70 degrees late. A slight chance of showers lingers Monday, with partly sunny skies and warming temperatures as highs rise into the upper 80s. Sunshine will prevail Tuesday along with a hot afternoon as highs reach the low to mid 90s. Heat index values will likely top out in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees Tuesday and potentially Wednesday, due to the combination of heat and high humidity.
