Tracking morning scattered showers & mild temperatures

Good morning and happy Tuesday.

We're starting the day with slightly warmer temperatures and a few scattered showers across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Light rain will continue through the morning hours before gradually coming to an end by lunchtime.

Temperatures this afternoon will climb back into the low 80s under mostly cloudy skies.

A surge of warmer air arrives Wednesday, sending temperatures well above average and back into the low to mid-90s. A boundary moving through the region was initially expected to bring a greater threat for severe weather, but the latest forecast trends have shifted the stronger storm development farther south, mainly along and south of Interstate 70.

As a result, the severe weather threat has decreased for much of the viewing area. Most locations are now under a Level 1 out of 5 risk, with portions of the area east and south of Interstate 35 under a Level 2 out of 5 risk. While a few isolated storms remain possible Wednesday afternoon and evening, many locations will stay dry with increasing cloud cover.

Behind the boundary, temperatures cool back into the 80s for Thursday.

Warm weather quickly returns for the weekend, with highs climbing back into the upper 80s. Rain and thunderstorm chances also return Saturday and continue into Monday morning.
