Tracking a cooler Wednesday with rain chances through Friday

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

A refreshing change has arrived across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas as cooler air filters into the region behind yesterday's cold front. Northwesterly winds are helping keep temperatures in the low to middle 60s this morning—about 15 degrees cooler than this time yesterday. While a light jacket may feel comfortable early, it won't be needed for long.

Most of the area is starting the day dry, but a weak weather system moving southeast from Nebraska will bring increasing clouds through the morning. A few spotty showers or sprinkles are possible around lunchtime and into the afternoon. However, dry air near the surface should limit rainfall, so many locations may see little more than passing clouds or a brief sprinkle.

Afternoon highs will only reach around 82 degrees, making today much more comfortable than earlier this week. Temperatures will fall back into the 70s by the evening commute, with a slight chance for a few lingering sprinkles before skies begin to quiet down overnight.

Rain chances increase late this week as multiple disturbances move through the region. The first round of showers is expected Thursday morning, followed by another period of more widespread rain Thursday night into Friday morning. Additional scattered showers remain possible through Friday before drier weather returns for the weekend.

Enjoy the break from the heat while it lasts. Highs will remain in the lower 80s through Friday before climbing back into the middle 90s early next week.
