Tracking late-week rain chances and mild air

Mild air, mostly cloudy skies, and rain chances will linger across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas to finish out the work week, before late July heat and sunshine return with a vengeance this weekend and early next week. Cloudy skies and scattered sprinkles Thursday afternoon and evening will give way to more widespread showers well after midnight as a wave of low pressure pushes into the region. Periods of rain and a few embedded thunderstorms will likely continue Friday morning, with more scattered rain chances and a few peaks of sunshine possible Friday afternoon. Temperatures in the mid 60s early Friday morning will warm into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees after 3 p.m., with southeast winds at 10 to 15 mph.
