Tracking a soggy Friday morning and a beautiful weekend

Good morning and happy Friday!

We're tracking the last bit of rain moving through the area this morning. As of 4:58 a.m., a few scattered showers remain after a stronger line of storms moved through earlier this morning, bringing damaging wind gusts and power outages to parts of northwest Missouri and northeastern Kansas.

Just before 5 a.m., a little more than 1,000 customers were still without power. Here in St. Joseph, we've picked up 0.86 inches of rain downtown, with even higher totals farther north near Falls City.

The severe threat has ended, but we'll continue to see a few light showers through the morning, so expect wet roads for the commute and give yourself a little extra travel time.

Temperatures are in the upper 60s to lower 70s this morning, with breezy south winds gusting into the upper teens and 20s. The cold front is still on the way and will move through around lunchtime.

By 8 a.m., most of the rain will be out of here, although a few isolated showers will remain possible through midday. Once the front passes, we'll see skies gradually clear, winds shift out of the north, and much cooler, drier air settle in for the weekend.

Highs today will reach around 85 degrees before cooler air arrives. Expect breezy conditions today and Saturday, plenty of sunshine this weekend, and dry weather continuing into the middle of next week. Temperatures will gradually warm back up as we head into next week.
