Tracking a toasty Tuesday and the return of t-storm chances

Good morning and happy Tuesday!

As you're taking a live look outside this morning, we're off to a calm start. Winds are light out of the southeast, a little stronger than yesterday, but still only gusting into the low teens. Temperatures are also a few degrees warmer, with most locations in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

A cold front is approaching from the northwest and will move through later today. Ahead of it, we'll see increasing clouds and the chance for a few scattered showers, so it's a good idea to keep the umbrella handy.

By 8 a.m., a few spotty showers will be possible, especially if you're heading to Chiefs training camp. It won't be a washout, but you'll want to be prepared for some on-and-off rain.

By lunchtime, temperatures climb into the upper 80s, and we'll top out near 90 degrees this afternoon. It'll still be warm and humid, with a few isolated showers possible through the evening commute.

As the cold front pushes south tonight, rain chances increase. Our best opportunity for widespread showers and thunderstorms arrives late tonight through Wednesday, with periods of rain lasting into Wednesday afternoon. A few storms could produce thunder, but the stronger storms are expected to stay mainly east of our area.

Another round of showers is possible Thursday into Friday before we dry out for the weekend.

Today, expect a high near 90 degrees with a 20% chance of scattered showers. The best chance for rain comes Wednesday, followed by cooler temperatures in the lower 80s through the end of the workweek. Sunshine and 90-degree heat return just in time for the weekend.
