Tracking Wednesday scattered t-storms and cooler temps

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

As you're heading out the door this morning, you'll notice a different feel to the air. Winds have shifted out of the northeast behind yesterday's cold front, bringing in slightly cooler temperatures to start the day.

Most of us are dry this morning, but we're watching a few scattered showers develop as the remnants of a system move through central Iowa. A few showers have already dipped south toward Bethany, while much of northwest Missouri remains dry for now.

Temperatures are starting out in the upper 60s to lower 70s, with the coolest readings north of Highway 36 where the cooler air has settled in.

Through the morning, we'll keep the chance for a few spotty showers, but the better opportunity for steadier rain arrives this afternoon and evening. Areas like Albany, Bethany, and Maryville will have the highest chance for heavier rainfall, with scattered showers continuing through the evening commute.

If you're heading out today, be sure to grab the umbrella and rain jacket. It'll be one of those soggy days with occasional showers and a few rumbles of thunder, but severe weather is not expected.

Highs today will only reach around 80 degrees, nearly 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, making for a much more comfortable afternoon despite the rain.

Rain chances continue into tonight before tapering off early Thursday. A few lingering showers are possible through Friday, but we'll gradually dry out heading into the weekend.

Rainfall totals through Friday will generally range from around a half inch locally, with 1 to 2 inches possible east toward Chillicothe.

After the rain moves out, the heat returns. Highs climb back into the lower and middle 90s by Sunday and Monday, along with increasing humidity.
