Tracking continued dangerous heat and humidity

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

We are halfway through the workweek, and it's another warm, humid and muggy morning. Temperatures are in the upper 70s to lower 80s, with southwest winds gusting into the middle to upper 20s.

A low-pressure system across central Nebraska is producing a few thunderstorms to our northwest. Some of that activity could push southeast later today, bringing a few showers and rumbles of thunder to our area. We could see a few isolated showers this morning, but widespread rain is not expected.

If you're heading to Chiefs training camp around 8 a.m., a few showers could pop up, with temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

By lunchtime, another round of showers could move through, followed by a hot and muggy afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the middle 90s, with heat index values reaching the triple digits once again.

Unfortunately, the front stays to our north for much of today, so we won't get the relief we're looking for just yet. A few showers remain possible late tonight into Thursday morning, but widespread rain is not expected.

Highs today will reach around 96 degrees with partly cloudy skies and breezy southwest winds. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for much of the area along and north of Highway 36, while a Heat Warning is in effect farther south, including Platte County and Atchison County, Kansas.

Today and Thursday will be KQ2 Storm Tracker First Alert Days due to the dangerous heat. Heat index values could remain in the triple digits through Friday, with only gradual improvement into the weekend. More noticeable relief is expected early next week.

Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks if you're outside, and be careful in the heat.
