Tracking a warmer Friday and rain chances

Friday will bring another warm day to the region before a cold front moves south through northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas, bringing cooler and more comfortable conditions for the weekend.

Temperatures started Friday morning in the upper 60s and lower 70s, with mostly clear skies and light south winds. Highs will climb into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees this afternoon.

Rain and thunderstorm chances will increase later Friday as a disturbance moves southeast from Nebraska. The National Weather Service says storms could develop across eastern Nebraska by midafternoon before potentially moving into northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri during the late afternoon and evening.

Only a 20% chance of rain is forecast, and much of the area will likely remain dry. However, if storms develop, some could become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts the primary concern. A few storms could also produce locally heavy rain.

The cold front will continue pushing south overnight, with a few lingering showers possible early Saturday. Most areas should dry out by midmorning.

Cooler air will settle in behind the front, with highs in the middle 80s Saturday and low 80s Sunday. Drier air will also move into the region Sunday, with dew points falling into the 60s.

Rain chances return late Sunday night into Monday as another disturbance moves through the region. The National Weather Service places those rain chances around 30% to 40%.

Temperatures will remain seasonal into early next week, with highs in the low 80s Sunday and Monday before warming back into the middle to upper 80s Tuesday into the middle of next week.
