GOWER, Mo. (KQTV) — An East Buchanan senior thrower made her college decision final Friday morning after signing a letter of intent to take her talents to the University of Southern Missouri in Joplin.
Bulldogs state champion thrower, Brooklynn Johnson, was surrounded by her coaches and family as she took the next step in her career.
“It just means the world to me because my family have been supporting me. My coaches have just really put so much time and effort into me,” said Jonson. “I’m so excited to go with Trey and throw up there and push each other every day. It just means the world to me, the support the community gives to me and the school board.”
Throughout her time as a high school athlete, Johnson has been a standard for East Buchanan’s program, bringing home three state medals.
“Brooklynn has worked hard, put in the time and the effort to be good at this sport, and has embraced every opportunity that she’s had,” East Buchanan Track and Field Head Coach Jeff Harlin said. “She really looks at challenges and goes after them, and really sets high goals for herself.”
Johnson also won the Class 2 state shotput championship last year and received two silver medals from previous years.
Johnson will finish her senior year at East Buchanan, chasing another state title.
