Elwood, KS, Activities Association to host ‘Battle at the Ballpark’ this summer
ELWOOD, Kan. (KQTV) -- While summer is still a few months away, the Elwood, KS, Activities Association announced it is bringing the "Battle at the Ballpark" to fields this summer.
Bringing the community together is a must for Elwood, KS, Activities organizer Megan Shackelford.
“(Events like these are) very important. You know, we don't have a lot in Elwood, but we all know each other,” Shackelford said. “If you see somebody, you know them. And so it's nice to have that. And we've got a good group of people that help out with things.”
For the event group, it doesn’t stop at events like Battle at the Ballpark; it also offers other opportunities, often free, like Easter Egg Hunts, concerts and more.
“It's always been kind of the same three activities, and I just really wanted to bring something different and something fun,” Shackelford said. “I thought the boxing and bare-knuckle fights would be fun for everybody.”
Battle at the Ballpark will take place at the ball fields in Elwood on July 25. The fight card, which aims to include bare-knuckle and boxing fights, is being organized by local promoters Byron Polley and John Carden.
