Tracking a windy Friday with an elevated fire risk
Good morning and happy Friday. We’re waking up to warm conditions and a pleasant start to the day. Morning temperatures are in the upper 30s and will continue to climb throughout the afternoon. Highs are expected to reach the low 70s much warmer than yesterday, but this will be the last day of the unseasonably warm conditions.
Southerly winds will increase today, with gusts between 20 and 30 mph. The combination of dry air and gusty winds has prompted a Red Flag Warning from noon to 6 p.m. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
A cold front will move in overnight, dropping temperatures into the upper 50s on Saturday. Despite the cooler air, conditions will remain sunny and dry through the day.
Our next system arrives Sunday afternoon, bringing moisture and the chance for a wintry mix and snow across northwest Missouri. A KQ2 Storm Tracker First Alert Weather Day has been issued for Sunday due to the potential for travel impacts.
Be sure to download the KQ2 Storm Tracker Weather app to stay up to date with the latest forecast information as we get closer to Sunday.
