Tracking a cool Friday with sunshine

Abigail McCluskey

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — After several rounds of heavy rain brought 2 to 5+ inches of rainfall to parts of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas, the rain is finally winding down Friday morning.

The National Weather Service expects showers to end by around midday, with skies clearing as cooler, drier air moves in.

However, flooding remains a concern. The Missouri River at St. Joseph was at 18.6 feet early Friday morning, above the 17-foot flood stage, and is forecast to rise to around 20.6 feet just after midnight Friday night.

The river is expected to fall below flood stage Sunday afternoon.

Behind the rain, a cool, fall-like weekend is ahead, with highs in the mid-60s Friday and dry conditions expected through much of next week.
