Persisterhood–St. Joseph to host diaper, hygiene drive-thru for International Women’s Day

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Volunteers with Persisterhood–St. Joseph will collect women’s menstrual products, infant hygiene items and diapers during a donation drive-thru.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, in the parking lot on 10th Street, adjacent to First Christian Church.

The drive-thru is a part of 350 “Give to Gain” events throughout the country as part of the 115th International Women's Day. Additionally, volunteers will collect signatures for the "Respect MOVoters" petition drive.

The diapers and infant hygiene products donated at the drive will all go to the Diaper Depot at AFL-CIO's Community Services.

“The birth of a child should be celebrated, not overshadowed by financial hardship. Yet for many vulnerable families, the cost of diapers creates ongoing stress,” said Nichi Seckinger, the executive director of the AFL-CIO Community Services. “Diaper Depot helps alleviate that burden by providing free diapers and hygiene items to those who need them most. By hosting a diaper drive, partners like Persisterhood make this possible by ensuring that families can experience the early years of a child’s life with dignity, stability, and hope.”

The women's hygiene products will go to Sparkle Peach, a nonprofit organization created by Ann Irvin.

Irvin provides women’s menstrual hygiene products to those who need them. She also helps to educate girls about menstrual hygiene, infection prevention, available products and related health questions

"This year's International Women's Day theme, 'Give to Gain,' is a perfect fit for Persisterhood," said Jane Frick, Persisterhood facilitator. "We created ourselves as a part of the Women's March Movement back in early 2017. Since then, we've sponsored/co-sponsored numerous charitable drives including for the AFL-CIO Community Center, Sparkle Peach, Ukrainian refugees, the YWCA's Women's Shelter, the Bartlett Center, and the United Way's reading programs. We really do agree--as the IWD organizers state--"Giving is not a subtraction; it's international multiplication. When women thrive, we all arise."
