(ST. JOSEPH, MO) - Massive news out of the south side of St. Joseph on Friday. Benton High School senior Lincoln Goodwin has committed to play college basketball at the University of Missouri-Kansas City at the Division 1 level.

The list of accomplishments for the 6'4 Goodwin from his time with the Benton Cardinals is a long one. Goodwin helped lead the team to two appearances in the Class 4 State Tournament Semifinals and one appearance in the championship game his junior year. Goodwin scored more than 1,500 points in his high school career and is a two-time all state selection. He averaged a career high 22 points a game and 5 rebounds a game as a senior last season.

Goodwin joins a UMKC Roos team that has already had 4 other high school seniors from the Kansas City region to commit to the team.

UMKC has a new head coach this season, Mark Turgeon, who is one of college basketball's winningest coaches from his time at Wichita State, Texas A&M and Maryland. Turgeon in the past recruited another Benton alum, Johnny Coy to his team at Wichita State back in the early 2000's.

Goodwin will be playing in the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association (GKCBCA) DiRenna Boys All-Star Game in Kansas City
