West Platte baseball defeats North Platte in extra innings

DEARBORN, Mo. (KQTV) — After going into eight innings, the West Platte High School baseball team came out on top with a 11-7 victory against North Platte.

It was a slow start in this one. The Blue Jays led 1-0 going into the fifth inning, but both teams starting rattling in the runs. The Panthers led going into the sixth inning 6-4, but West Platte took back their lead to grab their 10th win of the season.

West Platte sophomore Reed Elms had a huge at-bat with an inside-the-park home run, tallying 4 RBI, while junior Blaze Masoner in his five at-bats had four hits, one run and 3 RBI.

"I'm really proud of every single person on this team," said Masoner.  "From top to bottom, we all hit all night. Everybody came up big in the right situations, and that's what we needed. We've been kind of slow to start off with. The sticks haven't been landing, but tonight they did and we all brought it together and that was special for us."

Brian Faulkner, head coach for West Platte, knew the type of game he was preparing for when visiting Dearborn.

"It's always a good matchup when we come here or when they come to us," said Faulkner. "This was a game that could have gone either way."

For North Platte, junior Lane Richardson finished with two hits, one run and two RBI, while freshman Jace Iske had one hit and two RBI on the game.

West Platte now improves to 10-3 on the season, while North Platte drops to 11-5 on the year.

West Platte will face Bishop LeBlond on Monday, April 20, while North Platte will play Tuesday, April 21 against University Academy Charter. First pitch for both games is slated for 4:30 p.m.
