ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph Public Library is calling for applications for teens interested in participating in a nine-week leadership course throughout the summer.

The course is for teens going into 11th and 12th grade, or the homeschooling equivalent, in the upcoming school year.

The mission of the course is to provide local teens with self-development skills and tools to be effective leaders when they enter the workforce, as well as introduce them to the career opportunities available in St. Joseph and the surrounding area.

Applications can be submitted online at sjpl.lib.mo.us/future-leaders-st-joseph or through paper application available at the Downtown Library, located at 927 Felix St. Applicants will not be judged on their grades or the school they attend.

Applications must also be submitted before May 20. Students will receive correspondence back on May 24.

All classes will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays through the months of June and July, at the Downtown Library. Food will be available.

Students will be able to see parts of St. Joseph that they may not have seen before, have opportunities to make new friends and gain experience that looks good on a resume.

Members are expected to show up to all meetings or contacting the coordinator to say they cannot attend a meeting. No more than three meetings can be missed, or participation in the program will be canceled.

For more information about the program, contact Evelyn Holtzclaw by phone at 816-232-7729 or email eholtzclaw@sjpl.lib.mo.us.
