Tracking Friday sunshine and weekend thunderstorm chances

Good morning and happy Friday.

After the rain and thunderstorms that moved through last evening, we’re waking up to cooler temperatures and calmer conditions. Morning lows are in the mid to upper 40s, with northwest winds bringing in that cooler air and gusting into the low teens.

Highs today will climb into the low 70s under mostly sunny and dry conditions. Overnight, temperatures will fall back into the upper 40s.

We’ll warm up heading into the weekend, but rain and thunderstorm chances return later Saturday. Most of the day Saturday looks dry, with showers and storms moving in during the evening and continuing through Sunday.

We’re also watching the potential for some strong storms on Sunday. A Level 3 out of 5 risk is in place for southern portions of Buchanan County and parts of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri, while northern Buchanan County is under a Level 2 risk.

The main threats will be damaging winds, hail, and pockets of heavy rainfall.

As we head into next week, additional storm chances return Monday and Tuesday. The Storm Tracker Team will continue to provide updates through the weekend and into next week as we track these periods of active weather.
