Missouri Theatre hosts silent film viewings in celebration of the upcoming 100th anniversary

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph Centennial Celebration Series marked the Missouri Theatre's upcoming 100th anniversary on Sunday, highlighting its history with a themed experience.

The first film shown at the theatre was 'Rough House Rosie' starring Clara Bow, but it is lost. For the upcoming 100th anniversary in 2027, Bow's other hit "IT" was screened for over 50 attendees.

During the afternoon, the Dance Arts Center performed, and Charlie Chaplin's silent film "The Adventurer" was screened. Musicians Marvin Faulwell and Bob Keickeisen enhanced the experience with live music.

Each event in the Centennial Celebration Series is designed to commemorate the rich history and lively spirit of both the Missouri Theatre and St. Joseph City Hall as they approach their 100th anniversaries.

"This event is the result of careful planning and collaboration. We have several participants from the Kansas Silent Film Festival, who have been valuable partners,” said Centennial Celebration Series Chair Lori McAlister. “Our live musicians, including the organist and percussionist, are both from the festival. Their contributions made the celebration enjoyable for everyone."
