New hotdog vendor ‘Dogtown’ available at River Bluff Brewing

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- After recently moving to St. Joseph with his wife, who was a former local, Stephen Vogel discovered an opportunity to start a hot dog vendor business, serving at a popular local spot.

Vogel and his wife sought new ways to support themselves and keep busy after relocating. Their introduction to River Bluff Brewing inspired the idea of serving food, specifically hot dogs, at the bar.

"They said they'd always wanted hot dogs in-house," Vogel said. "I noticed no one was actually selling hot dogs, and it seemed simple. It just made sense since most people like hot dogs."

The name Dogtown comes from Vogel's early love of skateboarding in Southern California.

Vogel appreciates the brewery's support in bringing new food options to St. Joseph. He said they've helped throughout, even installing a new bartop just before his idea took shape.

"They've been so hospitable. Their enthusiasm pushed us to get moving quicker because I wasn't really planning to start yet, but their support really motivated us," Vogel said. "Not only did we relocate and have to find new jobs, but we love it here in St. Joseph."

Dogtown does not yet use social media, but Vogel said their hot dogs will be available at River Bluff Brewing, 1224 Frederick Avenue in St. Joseph, once a week and during special occasions.
