Tracking a hot and humid Monday

Good morning and happy Monday.

As you’re heading out the door this morning, it’s warm, humid, and mostly dry across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Most of the showers and thunderstorms have stayed south of Highway 36 overnight, although a few isolated showers are possible across our southern counties.

Temperatures are already in the low 70s this morning, making for a very warm start to the day. With all of the recent rainfall and added moisture in the air, a few areas of patchy fog may develop, especially in low-lying locations.

Through the day, we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds, but the bigger story will be the heat and humidity. By lunchtime, temperatures will already be climbing into the mid to upper 80s, and some locations could approach 90 degrees by late afternoon.

If you're spending time outside today, be sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and take breaks from the heat when possible. It’s going to be another sticky summer-like day across the area.

Cloud cover will increase a bit later tonight, but conditions remain dry with overnight lows only falling into the mid-60s.

Looking ahead, we stay mainly dry through Wednesday, with our next chance for showers and thunderstorms arriving Thursday and continuing into the latter half of the week. Temperatures remain in the 80s throughout the week, with a brief cool-down Tuesday and Wednesday before warmer weather returns heading into the weekend.
