Missouri State Emergency Management Agency

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (KQTV) -- The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and National Weather Service (NWS) urge Missourians to participate in outdoor activities with caution.

On Friday, June 5th, the state of Missouri will observe Summer Safety Day.

A day used to promote preparation for weather-related issues like UV Exposure, heatwaves and severe thunderstorms.

June will see an influx of outdoor activities across the state, including participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"It's always important to keep heat, humidity, and severe weather top of mind during the summer," SEMA Director Jim Remillard said.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) released data stating that 35 deaths were from heat-related causes in Missouri last year.

Missourians are urged to plan accordingly when staying outside for long periods of time this summer.
