St. Joseph Mustangs merchandise proves to be collaborative process

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Welcoming fans for the 2026 MINK League Season, the reorganized St. Joseph Mustangs Gift Shop continues to show the evolving world of souvenirs the team offers visitors.

Mustangs Owner and General Manager Ky Turner likes to keep the team's merchandise opportunities a collaborative process.

Turner said many of the items in the team's shop come not only from his own ideas and work but also from those of interns, employees and local creators.

One of those creators is Yellow Frog Graphics, which not only helps make the banners at historic Phil Welch Stadium but also items featuring the team name or logo.

"Ky and I have a meeting, and we sit down with some of our graphic designers and some of our salespeople, and we start formulating ideas. Ky's such a creative person that he brings a lot to the table," Yellow Frog Operations Manager Clinton Wiederholt said. "He has a very clear vision for a lot of what he wants. But what I really enjoy about working with him is he's always open to our ideas too."

Those ideas range from team shirts featuring Disney characters to LEGO-like sculptures of the team's mascots, liquid-filled pens and more.

However, Turner is also proud of making the merchandised team adjacent through its different identities throughout the season, and of course, paying tribute to their home field, Phil Welch Stadium.

The store features shirts, polos, baseballs and more that include the Phil Welch name or various images from the site.

"We're very specific in what we want, you know, branding. We want it to say Mustangs, but we'll say it in a lot of different ways," Turner told KQ2. "It's really fun for us to be able to work with different groups of people and do that. Yellow Frog has done a great job. They produce most of our merch that you see inside of (the store). We're the local baseball team, and we can work local. That's important to us, too."

The St. Joseph Mustangs Gift Shop is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The shop is located at Phil Welch Stadium, at 2600 Southwest Parkway in St. Joseph.
