Noyes Home for Children hosts 14th annual Block Party for community families

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Noyes Home for Children hosted its 14th annual block party, inviting families out for a day of fun despite humid weather conditions.

According to staff, turnout this year was "phenomenal," with hundreds of families enjoying the festivities and the home serving food to over 500 people.

The event featured a variety of businesses offering activities including a petting zoo, balloon animals, and DIY workshops.

New additions this year included a foam party and a partnership with St. Joseph Reads, where every family received a free copy of "The Wild Robot."

Executive Director Chelsea Howlett shared what makes the day special for the organization.

"My favorite part is when past residents come back and say, do you remember me?" Howlett said. "One former resident told us it's awesome because they're able to invite their biological families to meet their Noyes Home family and continue to check in and share what they're doing in their lives. That really is very heartwarming to see their success stories."

The Noyes Home for Children looks forward to this celebration each year, with staff noting that seeing former residents return as successful young adults makes the event even more meaningful.
