CLAY COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- For anybody looking to swim at Smithville Lake, a swim advisory has been issued for Camp Branch and Little Platte beaches due to elevated E. coli levels.

Clay County says E. coli is naturally occurring and can increase after heavy rains or from wildlife.

The county will follow the same safety procedures as the state of Missouri.

Signs are now posted at both beaches.

The beaches are tested every two weeks, with results available on the county website.

You can also call the park office at 816-407-3400, extension 3, with any questions.

The county says it appreciates any patronage and looks forward to visits, but for now, swimming is not recommended.
