Project leaders say data center project can help community

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- Capstone Technology Campus LLC said its proposed annexation of 130 acres at 6321 S.E. Pickett Road would allow for the development of a four-building data center campus and generate economic growth for St. Joseph.

According to a release sent by the City of St. Joseph, a fact sheet from the developer outlined the project's potential benefits and economic impact.

The proposed data center campus would redevelop a long-standing industrial and utility site. Currently the property, is not apart of the St. Joseph city limits but if council approved the annexation of prop it would become apart of St. Joseph.

The proposed data center would support critical digital and cloud infrastructure, while providing a long-term tax base with limited demand on public services.

According to the developer, the proposed data center would have a lower impact on the surrounding area and use resources more efficiently than many traditional industrial developments.

The proposed data center is expected to create more than 1,000 construction jobs during development. Once operational, the facility is projected to support between 150 and 250 permanent jobs.

In addition, the company said the four data center campus would support Buchanan County and Saint
Joseph's economic development priorities, that would attract companies that rely on secure, high-capacity computing infrastructure.

Along with an estimated $50 million in annual tax revenue and has relatively low traffic, noise and public service demands compared to other industrial uses.
